Foursquare Re-Brand

Foursquare have recently rebranded and I couldn't be more disappointed. They used the word "Superhero" to describe the emblem/icon. Superhero? Really? I wasn't sure if they were being serious or not but here is a quote from the team who re-branded it themselves : "We designed it to be a mix of map pin and superhero emblem." I find it disjointed and not very friendly.

On a good note, the typography for the main brand name is not bad - it's strong even - however there is no relationship between the two. I am just wondering to myself if the two were designed by different people entirely. Foursquare has come a long way but it just feels like they have taken a step back with the brand's development.
